Mission Statement
The mission of the Ankeny Library Media Program is to enable all students to be independent learners who are skilled users of information, and who appreciate literature and other creative expressions.
Hours: 7:50 AM-3:45 PM
Checkout Information
Books: Books are checked out to students for 10 school days. You may renew a book if it’s not on hold. Log into Destiny Discover, our library catalog, to renew before the due date. ( After the due date you have to come to visit us in the library!)
Access to Online Library Catalog Information
The school library online catalog has been accessible on each school’s library webpage for well over a decade. Students learn each year how to access the library in-house and online materials through both direct and indirect instruction from the teacher librarians and staff. Students and parents are able to access the school library catalog on each school’s website by selecting the student’s school, hovering over the Library Media Center located on the top menu bar, and selecting the library catalog. Specific individual account information may be accessed by selecting LOGIN and then the blue SIGN IN WITH GOOGLE option. Students and staff will need to provide their Ankeny Google credentials. If a patron (staff or student) is already signed into Google Chrome, selecting this option will automatically sign the user into the personal online catalog account.
Holds: If we don’t have what you want, you can put it on hold and we can also help you request it from another Ankeny library.
Textbooks: Checkout period depends on supplies (e.g. French books can be checked out for 3 days but social studies books can be checked out all year)
Overdue notices: Students receive many email reminders. These are sent 3 days before the book is due, 1 day before the book is due, and once each week until the book is returned. Parents will receive an email once a month to help their student remember to return any overdue or lost library books. Here is a video, Directions to Renew Your Library Book, so you can learn how to renew your books on your own. If you need help renewing your book, please stop and ask for help in the library.
Fines: $.10/day overdue up to $5.00 per book. If a book is lost, students are charged for the full replacement price of a library bound copy of that book. If a book has not been returned or renewed after 45 days, our circulation system will automatically mark it as lost and a replacement fine will be charged. Fines for overdue or lost books can be paid in the library, using cash (exact change is needed as we cannot give change or keep change) or online using the district online payment system.
