Welcome to Northview Middle School!

Since I’m new to Ankeny, I thought it would be appropriate for you to know a little more about myself and the person that’ll be working with the students at Northview Middle School. I grew up on a farm northwest of Perry, IA, where I quickly learned the value of hard work and an appreciation for everyone who works long hours at a job day after day. I have three siblings, two of which are educators, so family gatherings usually consist of lengthy conversations focused around the world of education and educational topics. I got into education after having some quality educators in my life at both the high school and collegiate level. Those educators had a tremendous impact on me and I’ve tried to emulate the characteristics of those amazing teachers throughout my career to make a difference in the lives of the students I work with. I graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and taught nine years of science in several different school systems before moving on to Drake University where I received my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. As I begin my tenure at Northview Middle School, I will be beginning my eighteenth year in administration. The variety of experiences I’ve had at numerous schools of varying sizes and schools with varying diversity has shaped my leadership style and skills over the years. Personally, my family consist of two boys. Nick and Jack who are 19 years old and 12 years old respectively. They both enjoy sports and over the years I’ve enjoyed spending time coaching them and watching them play. During my free time I enjoy being outside and staying physically fit by competing in various running events such as a marathons, half marathons, charity 5K’s and sprint triathlons. Due to the circumstances of COVID-19, I haven’t had a chance to meet as many parents as I would have liked by now, but when you see at me at an event, please make sure to stop by and introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting each of you as the school year progresses and look forward to being part of the Ankeny School community.
